Few days back I wrote a blog on Auctioning a cheap advertising strategy based on what I observered. Today, I have been searching for Nintendo’s Wii and realized, another cheap strategy. The retail price of Wii is supposed to be $250. And due to shortage of these cool consoles, they have been selling for a much higher price. I think now that the Chrismas and Thanksgiving rush is gone, the prices will come down if only there is a fresh supply. I think now it’s possible to get them for $400 instead of $600+ during the holiday season. But when you do a search, there are a bunch of sites which seem to sell them for $250 itself. Until you click and land on those sites, you will realize they have a big and red colored “Out of stock” message.
So, the trick seems to be identifying a hot selling product which is being sold much higher than it’s intended price, stick it up in the catalog as out-of-stock product but with a original price.
